Technology Overview
This invention is a fast and scalable method for traffic prediction. End users (drivers) can get access to future traffic conditions via a smart phone app. The invention’s basic idea consists of three steps: 1) Creating scalable model for the network; 2) Performing prediction; and 3) Providing future traffic conditions to the end users. We have analyzed the performance of the proposed system performing experiments for south-eastern part of Singapore’s road network. This invention could prove helpful for companies developing traffic management systems and travel assistance applications. Furthermore, governmental agencies can also use this application for planning and resource management. Development Status Technology Readiness Level 4 on the scale by the Ministry of Defence Singapore. About the Research Group The Research Team of Dr. Justin Dauwels has been working on "Big Data" since before it became a hype. One of their main goals is to monitor, predict, and control traffic jams, by leveraging tools from statistics, machine learning, and control theory. Their urban traffic project has been featured by BBC Click, Straits Times and various other media outlets. |
