Technology Overview
A hardware controller developed to augment traditional interaction with computational devices by means of its ability to alter its rigidity to simulate a variety of devices including, but not limited to, swords, whips and musical instruments. The device consists of vertical and horizontal hinges, 3-axis accelerometer, a servo-motor, bend sensors and switches. Multiple applications in video gaming are easily envisioned. Applications beyond video gaming to areas where various degrees of flexibility and/or rigidity are need can also be envisioned. Development Status Technology Readiness Level 6 on the scale by the Ministry of Defence Singapore. About the Research Group Dr. Yuichiro Katsumoto works at the CUTE Center in the National University of Singapore. This research was supported by the Media Development Authority of Singapore. |
